Things You Should Know About Buying Tires
Not all tires are built the same. If you are keeping the vehicle cheaper tires do not necessarily save you money. The best scenario for most vehicles is to purchase a really good winter tire designed for winter and a really good summer tire designed for summer.
THE SUMMER TIRE
Summer tires have a harder rubber compound and lighter tread pattern designed for non winter road conditions and not below freezing weather. A summer tires rubber turns really hard in cold weather conditions thereby acting like a hockey puck under your vehicle. A properly designed summer tire will give you better mileage and last longer.
THE WINTER TIRE
Winter tires have more aggressive tread patterns but more importantly the rubber is designed not to harden when the weather is cold. This is what helps you stop safely. Sometimes that 20 feet quicker that you stop in the winter may save you and your families life.
ALL SEASON TIRE
The all Season Tire is a tire in my opinion that is trying to do everything. It is halfway between a Summer and a Winter Tire. The tread is semi aggressive but not really good for winter and the rubber is semi hard/soft so it is not really good for either climate. You will stop better than a summer tire in the winter but not as good as a true winter tire. If you are keeping a vehicle I suggest an all Season will cost you more in the long run and is not as safe in either season.
BOTTOM LINE
– HAVING PROPER WINTER AND SUMMER TIRES SAVE YOU MONEY AND ARE SAFER
The thing to remember is when you have a set of summers and winters you have tires that are made for each season. Don’t worry that you are spending more money upfront having both tires because when your summers are mounted the winter tires are sitting and not wearing. Visa Versa.The important thing to consider is you are as safe as possible in the Winter and your Summer tires wear the best and give you good traction in the off Winter months.Your summers will last alot longer than All Season Tires and your Winter tires will out perform the All Seasons during the Winter.
